Oh Crap, It's Covid!
Oh Crap, It's Christmas! will not be able to be staged this year as a result of Covid-19 restrictions and precautions (we love you! Please stay safe and mask up!). It is our sincere hope that 2021 will find us together again in joyful and grateful celebration of all our blessings, chiefly among them the opportunity to be together.
HOWEVER...as a consolation, we'd like to record some new songs in time for holiday release. Christmas is coming so we need to work quickly. That's where you come in...
This show was originally inspired by the album we released in 2014, "Oh Crap, Its Christmas!" and was little more than a record release party gone wonderfully awry. For the next 5 years, the show took on a life of its own and, while still sourcing the record, grew to become a close knit group of musicians, guests and audience members, all of whom feel like family that you count on seeing once a year, no matter how good or bad that year was. This has been a rough year and, more than ever, we want and need that feeling of family and belonging. It is in that spirit that we hope to create
**Oh Crap, It's Christmas! Volume 2:** A Family Album
As the first performance was inspired by the original recording, the next recording will attempt to capture the warmth, fun and musical range of the performances that have occurred over the last 6 years.
I’m pleased to say that "Oh Crap, It's Christmas!" has transcended it's original intention and has become a new holiday tradition for many people, musicians and audience members alike. We’ll be recording with the house band we’ve been using in large part since day one: Josh Paxton on piano; Alex McMurray on guitar; Andre Bohren on drums; Jack Craft on cello, glockenspiel and acoustic guitar; Matt Perrine on bass, sousaphone and music director and Debbie Davis (hey, that’s me!) as the erstwhile mistress of ceremonies. Our special guests will include local luminaries, Susan Cowsill, Paul Sanchez, and Dayna Kurtz as well as members of my immediate family, Barbara Smith-Davis (my mother and operatic soprano singing Oh Holy Night); Darwin Davis (my sister and Dallas Indy darling performing her original song, Grandmother Christmas, written about our Grandmother); Ben Perrine (my son playing guitar and drums); and JB Davis (my father and operatic basso profundo who passed away in 2017 singing Sweet Little Jesus Boy).
It will be distributed digitally to iTunes, Spotify, etc and via this website where downloads, CDs and download cards will be offered with the option of giving them as gifts that we can send directly to your friends and family.
How can I help?
As with the show, it is of paramount importance that we pay the musicians and cover our costs via sponsorship which is what allows us to keep the retail cost reasonable so that anyone who needs some holiday cheer can afford it. When you sponsor the CD, you become a part of the project, so we'd like to offer you the following premiums:
This level gives you production credit on the album as EXECUTIVE PRODUCER which will appear on the physical CDs as well as all digital production credit shared with publishers and streaming platforms. Congratulations; you're in show biz! Comes with a free pre-release download of the new album as soon as mastering is complete as well as 5 copies of the cd signed by Debbie, Matt and the Gang as well as a signed poster, suitable for framing.
Your name will appear above the title of the CD on the album cover art as well as download cards. You will also receive executive producer credit in print and digital media. Comes with a free pre-release download of the new album as soon as mastering is complete, 10 copies of the cd signed by Debbie, Matt and the gang as well as a signed poster, suitable for framing. Alternately, you can forego the name on the cover and have your face (or that of a loved one) included in the album artwork OR your business logo/name can be placed prominently in the artwork.
And, of course, we welcome any and all donations. Anyone who contributes at any level will receive a discount code for purchases on our website during the holidays. Once we figure out if we have enough funding to begin production in earnest, pre-sales will be made available as well.
In the event we do not source enough funds to produce the record, all donations will be cheerfully returned.
We want to hear from you
We are so grateful for every one who has supported this project over the years. We love seeing new faces every year and we look forward to the return of our loyal veteran audience members year after year. If you've enjoyed the music and the show, please take a minute to share a memory or a thought with us.
